History and Partnership

The Appalachian Habitat Association (AHA) was established March 2, 2018. Prior to its inception, members of the group had established an Appalachian Group of the Virginia Deer Hunters Association (VDHA). Members of Appalachian Group had worked closely in the region with not only deer hunters but with other groups such as the National Wild Turkey Federation and the Ruffed Grouse Society and considered the value of bringing all these groups together under one banner, that of the Appalachian Habitat Association. Thus the group was formed. The AHA now works in concert with a variety of other Appalachian-based groups, to ensure the future of all wildlife through the improvement of habitat on public lands.

The Association also works to secure the future of hunting and outdoor sports through their association with 4H youth activities and the sponsorship of scholarships for students working the fields of forestry, conservation, and law enforcement.
